Donation from “ Blythswood care “

-         After a very successful realization of donation of the two fire engines with complete equipment, donated by “ Blythswood care “ to voluntary  firefighting organization   “ Bajna Basta “ , and after sorting the impressions , we can announce following :

- Vehicles and the equipment have outcome our wildest dreams, and after using them in real life situations we learned about their real value.

            - Colleagues from Scotland: Gary Bennett, Peter Clements, Paul Mc Niven, Victor Jack, martin Smith, Ken Oakley, Mike Sinclair and Paul Sefton  shown a great professionalism in training our firefighters with handling the donated equipment. From 7th of May to 11th of May our firefighters fulfilled their theoretical and practical knowledge, which was demonstrated on a public demonstration on the main town’s square in Bajina Basta.

- Our colleagues traveled from Scotland 4 days, and arrived to Bajina Basta on Saint George’s day, day of our patron saint. Ceremonial column of vehicles was formed in front of Bajina Basta fire station, and paraded the streets of town, all the way to river Drina, where the vehicles were officially handed over to the “Bajna Basta “ voluntary firefighting organization . Great number of citizens and distinguished guests took participant in this event. Fireman and the citizens showed their appreciation to the dare colleagues from Scotland and after the ceremony enjoyed such specialties as roasted ox, plenty of beer, and the music of the Serbian trumpets.

- Last day in Bajina Basta, after the public demonstration, all firemen spent a day in a boat ride from Perucac to Visegrad. The dinner in hotel “Jezero” was the opportunity for the colleagues to exchange the goodbye gifts.

- Credits for realization of this project belong to Mr. Phil Sorthouse, Mr. Gary Bennet and his team, and mostly to Mr. Ken Mantle and his wife Tia who were the initiators of this project.

- Firefighting medals “Golden firefighting cross for special service “ were given by Firefighting alliance of Serbia to : Mr. Ken Mantle , Mr. Phil Shorthouse and Mr. Gary Bennet .

- In acceptance of the donation and accommodating the donors , voluntary firefighting organization “ Bajna Basta” was helped by :

-         Municipal Bajina Basta

-         Drinsko – Limske powerplants

-         and other companies from the private sector .

- Fire engines were used twice in the interventions. First usage was a road traffic accident intervention, and the second was helping the citizens in fighting with flood due to heavy rains. On both interventions there were no deaths, but there were casualties and the material damages.

- “Spasoje “ ( name made out of word SPAS which means SALVATION ),mascot of the training, was a gift from Mr. Phil Shorthouse . It is a doll which Phil got from his mother when he started the firefighting career. Unfortunately Phil’s mother Gladys passed away while he was in Bajina Basta on the realization of the donation. “Spasoje” is now an ornament of our fire station.
